Update for BAAB Families

Friday, April 10, 2020

I hope you and your family are well. I know we all miss the sights and sounds of baseball and softball. I am writing to update you on the status of our spring 2020 season.

What is the status of our spring season?

Our board has made the difficult decision to cancel our spring season. We explored a variety of alternatives, but we see no path forward. This cancelation also eliminates the possibility of a summer all-star season. The 2020 Tri County Softball tournament has also been canceled. Our park will host Tri County in summer 2021. For our travel baseball teams, GGBL has not announced a final decision for the spring season. The manager of your team will inform you when GGBL announces a decision.

What is the refund policy?

Our board has spent considerable time working on a refund policy that is both fair and responsible. We spend a significant percentage of your registration fee before games begin. We invest money in materials to prepare our field surfaces. We have program costs, including fees for background checks. We completed our uniform order. Our non-recoverable costs for the spring season average out to $65 per participant. Please understand, BAAB is a non-profit organization. Participant registration fees represent nearly all of our income. While we would like to offer you a full refund, absorbing this full expense for over 725 participants would cripple us financially and jeopardize our ability to serve this community in the future. At the same time, we understand $65 is a lot of money for a season that did not happen. In the refund policy we have developed, our association is absorbing a percentage of the loss.

BAAB will issue the following refunds:

  • Each participant in our Peanut league will receive a $100 refund.

  • Each participant in our other rec baseball and softball leagues will receive a $125 refund.

  • We will issue refunds for our travel ball participants if/when GGBL announces a decision to cancel the spring season. You can expect a refund similar to the ones issued for our rec league participants.

We recognize some of you are experiencing financial distress. We will work through hardship requests on an individual basis. If you would like to discuss a higher refund amount, please email president@baabonline.com on or before Friday, April 17 at noon. Please include “Hardship Request” in the subject line of your email.

We also recognize some of you may wish to reduce your refund amount voluntarily as a way of supporting our program financially. If you would like to reduce your refund amount, please email president@baabonline.com on or before Friday, April 17 at noon. Please include “Donation Request” in the subject line of your email. Since we are a registered non-profit, we can provide you a donation receipt for tax purposes upon request.

Please note: If you do not email us with a hardship or donation request by noon on Friday, April 17, you will receive the base level refund.

The process of issuing refunds will be labor intensive, so please be patient with us.

  • We will issue hardship refunds as soon as we determine the refund amount.

  • We will begin issuing all other refunds the weekend of April 17-19.

  • Our goal is to process all refunds on or before Friday, April 24. If you have not received your refund by Thursday,  April 30, please email me.

  • We will issue your refund to the credit card you used to pay your registration fee. If the card we have on file is no longer active, please email me immediately.

Uniforms

Based upon feedback from our managers, most players received their uniforms. If your child did not receive his/her uniform, please communicate with your manager. We have asked managers to work with parents to identify a way to distribute uniforms in a safe, responsible way. Also, if you ordered uniform extras (e.g., embroidery, parent hats, parent jerseys, etc.), please make sure you pay your child’s manager for these items. The managers paid cash for all uniform orders at pick up.

If you have urgent questions I have not addressed in this communication, please email me.

Blessings,

Inman J. Houston
